to treat bladder pain or discomfort associated with interstitial cystitis (painful bladder syndrome).

Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including:

1. unusual bruising/bleeding (such as blood in stool)
2. vision changes (such as blurred vision)
3. eye pain
4. mental/mood changes
5. heartburn
6. discomfort when swallowing
7. tiredness
8. fast/pounding heartbeat
9. shortness of breath

Before taking pentosan polysulfate sodium, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to heparin or low molecular weight heparin; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of:

1. bleeding disorders (such as hemophilia, thrombocytopenia)
2. blood vessel disorders (such as aneurysm)
3. eye disorders
4. liver disease
5. spleen disorders
6. stomach/intestinal disorders (such as stomach ulcers, polyps, diverticula)

Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products).

During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

It is unknown if this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
